At our first annual Celebrate Trails day, we announce to the Mequon-Thiensville community that a plan is underway by a dedicated and growing group of citizens to privately fund a network of off-road pedestrian/bike trails. This will link our communities in Mequon-Thiensville, providing safe off-road opportunity for outside recreation. The first phase is being planned from Rotary Park to the InterUrban Trail along Highland Road. Find out more at mcfgives.org/bikepath.
CELEBRATE TRAILS FUN FACTS:
- Every 4th Saturday in April has been “Celebrate Trails Day” since 2013 when it was started by the Rails to Trails Conservancy. RTC is a non-profit organization that was established in 1986 recognizing that decommissioned railway tracks could be converted to pedestrian and bike walkways and trails. This national celebration encourages people across the country to get outside and enjoy the nation’s exceptional trails and trail system.
- Cities across the nation are hosting their own Celebrate Trails Day events and the Mequon Community Foundation has partnered with the Rails to Trails Conservancy to bring it to Mequon!
- The Inter-Urban Trail is used by commuters, dog walkers, bicyclists, walkers and runners alike. We can travel on it South to downtown Milwaukee and North to Cedarburg and beyond. Spurs off this trail are encouraged to continue connecting people to the trails.
